What if February was the month we tried something different for the ocean?
This month, we join Fish Free February, a campaign encouraging people to step away from seafood for 28 days to learn more about how fishing impacts our oceans.

Wherever you are
in the world,
small everyday choices
can create real impact.
So what is Fish Free February?
Fish Free February is a month-long challenge to leave seafood off your plate. But it’s also a mindset shift. It’s about asking better questions, learning where our food comes from, and realising that small choices add up.
You’re not expected to figure it out alone. We help you with:
- Clear, science-backed resources
- Surprisingly good plant-based alternatives
- A global community trying the same thing

Why fish?
Not just because we love them where they belong, wild and swimming free
Most seafood today comes from industrial fisheries, not small-scale or low-impact sources. This puts huge pressure on marine life, habitats, and food webs.
When demand drops, pressure eases and recovery becomes possible. Fish populations get breathing room. Ecosystems have a chance to recover. It really can be that simple.

Go Fish Free! Why 71blue is supporting
At 71blue, we believe ocean protection doesn’t just happen in policy rooms or research labs. It happens in kitchens, shops, and everyday decisions. Supporting Fish Free February is one way we’re helping turn care for the ocean into action.
If a full month feels like too much, try a week. Or a few meals. If you’re curious, that’s enough to start.
Even when the challenges seem enormous, hope grows when we act together.
One month. One choice. A step toward healthier oceans. 💙
